It is said that Ikebukuro is becoming a hotly contested area for electronics stores.

The president of the department store says it is not a welcomed change.

Department stores are making Ikebukuro an art and culture city, but electronics stores are a nuisance.

Ikebukuro was a department store terminal station.

It is also a station with many students.

Youth culture is about rebellion and geeks.

They don’t want to become like Akihabara (a city in Japan know for it`s geek culture).

I guess they want to become liket Nihonbashi (a business district).

Department store culture has flourished most in Japan.

London, New York, and Paris are no longer cultural cities of high-end department stores.

Ginza was once the city of department store culture.

Today, department stores does no longer have that power, and many of them have turned into general commercial buildings.

Bic Camera in Yurakucho used to be a Sogo department store.

Akihabara has gone from being a town of electrical parts stores to becoming a major home appliance store, a town of personal computers, and finally a mecca for otaku.

A new art culture is created not by old people, but by rebellious young people who have neither money nor experience.

The gentrification takes place in later times.

like Kyoto.

Ikebukuro will not be like Kyoto, nor will it be like Nihonbashi or Ginza.

I think Ikebukuro is good for students and young people, Ikebukuro.

When McDonald’s first opened on the first floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi, there was a lot of criticism in Ginza.

Even when Yoshinoya (fast food resturant) opened a store on Ginza Street.

Even when the UNIQLO head office opened.

Young people who are disliked by old people will create the culture of the future.

As an old man, I think so.

Reflect on the history of Ginza and your own life.
